A professional, practical prosecutor

Everyone deserves to feel safe in the city we love. As Denver District Attorney Zach will prioritize public safety including the prosecution of violent crimes and violent criminals.

Professional

Zach has represented the People of Denver for the past eighteen years while working at the Denver District Attorney’s Office. He knows how to hold criminals accountable. Zach served in every major unit in the Denver District Attorney’s Office. He successfully prosecuted homicides, sexual assaults, cold-case homicides, cold-case sexual assaults, child sexual assaults, domestic violence assaults, weapons and firearms cases, gang-motivated shootings, white collar cases, and securities fraud cases. Today, Zach is second-in-command for the current district attorney, Beth McCann.

Practical

Zach believes convictions should be the result of processes that are fair, transparent, and consistent with the pursuit of justice. Zach will continue to increase transparency and trust in the criminal justice system. Zach believes prosecutors should treat offenders, particularly those in need, with empathy. As District Attorney he will continue to support alternatives to traditional punishment that give appropriate offenders the opportunity to better themselves and leave the criminal justice system.

Denver Native

Zach was born in Denver and raised in Greeley, Colorado. In high school he and his family moved to New York. Zach earned his undergraduate degree in criminal justice from the University at Albany, SUNY. In Albany he worked for the New York State Assembly and the Democratic Assembly Campaign Committee. He returned to the city he loves to earn his law degree from the University of Denver. Prior to joining the Denver District Attorney's office in 2005, Zach was a civil litigator with Ogborn, Summerlin & Ogborn, LLC (now Ogborn Mihm, LLP) where his practice included construction defect, personal injury and medical malpractice claims. Zach is a lifelong Denver Broncos fan and a season ticket holder. He lives in Denver with his wife, two boys and their very big dog.
